Congratulations to Our 2017 Scholarship Winner: Anthony Zuniga


Congratulations to Anthony Zuniga, the 2017 winner of the Catholic Lawyers' Society scholarship essay competition.  The essay competition and scholarship fund was was established in 2008 in keeping with CLS's purpose of promoting the study and application of Christian principles to modern topics, and is open to graduating high school seniors.  Loyola High School Detroit has participated in 9 of the 10 yearly essay competitions.  The 2017 competition focused analyzing tweets written by Pope Francis, the meaning of the tweets, and how they affect the individual applicant's life.

Anthony focused on three tweets from Pope Francis, about God's constant presence in our lives, God's love for us, and spreading goodness in the world.  You can read Anthony's essay by clicking here.

Anthony is a member of the National Honor Society at Loyola, and played varsity basketball for four years.  He will attend Wayne State University in the fall, where he plans to be a biomedical engineering major.  He joins a distinguished group of former award winners from Loyola: Okwuolisa Umeokolo, James Davis, Rafael Clay, Dontea Haliburton, Najee A've, Michael Travis, Demetrius Heard, and JoVaughn Townsend.
